The Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 expires next month.

Many of you have heard of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 as the foundation for anti-human trafficking efforts in the United States.  It provides for the protection of human Trafficking victims and the prosecution of the human traffickers.  This legislation has been reauthorized several times, most recently in 2008.  It will expire next month, September 2011, if it is not reauthorized.  Senator Patrick Leahy has introduced the TVPRA of 2011 (Trafficking Victims Protection Reathorization Act of 2011).  There are several co-sponsors, but neither of our North Carolina Senators are currently co-sponsors.

Would you please show your support for this legislation by telling your Senators to co-sponsor (or at least to vote in support of) this bill?

There are ways you can help:

1. Click here to endorse the bill on POPVOX, which is a web tool that tracks support of and opposition to all bills before the Congress, and informs the Senators and Representatives which organizations support which bills. It shows exactly how many people endorse or oppose each bill.

2. Email and call your Senators directly:
